2019: 2 Rivers Remix and Kumsheen High School Sponsor Rainbow Crosswalk Welcoming Two-Spirit Artists to FREE Indigenous Music Feast

‘Diversity Makes Beautiful Music:’ Rainbow Crosswalk Welcomes Quantum Tangle, DJ O Show and Nimkish to ’Q’emcin 2 Rivers Remix 2019 – FREE 2-day Indigenous Music Feast in Lytton, July 6-7

June 19, ’Q’emcín (aka Lytton BC): ’Q’emcín 2 Rivers Remix (2RMX), now in its second year, is excited to announce that community in Lytton has worked together to create a welcoming environment for Two-Spirit artists performing at the 2019 2-day musical feast – as well as local LGTBQ2+ residents.

On June 17-18, twelve Kumsheen students, supported by 2 Rivers Remix workshop coordinators – with a painting assist by the local RCMP detachment – painted the rainbow crosswalk on 4th Street at Main Street (at the main entrance for the 2RMX event). The project was co-funded by Kumsheen High School (SD74) and 2 Rivers Remix Society.

2RMX in 2019 will showcase 24 original Indigenous musical artists, including Two-Spirit headliners Quantum Tangle, – who create a truly unique Northern Indigenous soundscape, fusing their Anishnaabe-Metis and Inuit roots to their music. In addition, 2RMX is featuring DJ O Show – a Skwxwu7mesh Two-Spirit DJ whose mantra is quoted above: ‘Diversity makes beautiful music.’ DJ O Show is also an inspirational speaker for youth and will be giving a youth workshop at the event. Young, female artist Nimkish (‘Kwakwaka’wakw/Cree), will be performing songs from her upcoming debut EP “Heartbreak On The Coast” which shares her experience of falling for somebody of the same sex for the first time.

’Q’emcín 2 Rivers Remix (2RMX) is a FREE 2-day outdoor feast of contemporary Indigenous music and culture hosted by the Nlaka’pamux Nation and the Village of Lytton July 6-7, 2019. The full line-up of Indigenous artists at 2RMX is available here.

According to Artistic Director Meeka Morgan (Secwepemc/Nuu-Chah-Nulth/Nlaka’pamux), 2RMX showcases an exciting diversity of new Indigenous artists who inspire and include all people from all Nations: “We have Indigenous performers in many musical genres from hip-hop to folk, metal to blues, funk to electronic, pop to reggae. And in addition to the three Two-Spirit artists performing this year, more than half the lead performers are women while one-third are youth.”

Surrounded by stunning canyon vistas, 2 Rivers Remix will feature outdoor live performance stages with music, spoken word, and dance, as well as video screenings, interactive workshops with festival artists, a large scale outdoor Indigenous collaborative art exhibition, and an Indigenous Artisan street market.
